Rick Latona does better!
September 24, 2008
Rick Latona did a heap better than the first private auction. Some BIG LLL.com sales there. Enjoy thumbing through list and i will try and get hold of a copy of the live auction from somewhere that Rick Latona just ran as apparently there was a champion cattle auctioneer selling the domains that he flew in. Typical American show off is our Rick LOL
Love him or hate him, Rick has style though!

Google G1 & Android

Google mobile move aims to give legs to Android
Although Google’s move into the mobile space might be read as a shot across the bow of Apple Inc. and established smart phone vendors such as Research In Motion Ltd. and Nokia Corp., the Internet titan’s plans for Android stretch far beyond the G1.
Google is interested less in cellphones than in securing a dominant role for its Android software and its search engine on the latest generation of multifunction smart phones.
“Google ultimately wants to be a partner with all the major carriers to make sure that it has prime real estate on handsets,” said Colin Gillis, an Internet equity analyst with Canaccord Adams in New York.
Traffic - Opening Night Nerves?
September 24, 2008
Well, ‘traffic New York’ is upon us.
Last night was the opening auction of Rick Schwartz & Howard Nieu’s domains.
Well, we all know the Global economic collapse is also upon us so we shouldn’t be too surprised at low prices. Having said that I’m amazed how many gems went for peanuts. I personally would be sick selling at some of these prices:…………….
Japan Domain Market Demystified
September 22, 2008
Below is a very interesting article by Darshaun Nadeau on Japanese domains, idns, & the future of search and domains in Japan:
“Ever sat at one of the VeriSign “State of the domain” meetings at any of the ICANN meetings? Or read their reports about countries with the greatest opportunity in domains? Almost without question you will learn that Japan is earmarked as the country with the greatest opportunity for growth in the domain market. They take into consideration important factors such as GDP of a country, internet population, and current domain registration levels. With this they compare registrations with nations from around the world to come up with some predicted level of domain registrations a country should have…………….
Oldest Domains In History
September 22, 2008
nordu.net was used for the first ever ROOT server (nic.nordu.net). It was techinically the first ever domain name in the current domain name system, as it was created by the registry (for use by the registry) on DAY 1, before domains were allowed to be officially registered.
The first 10 domain names registered were:…………………

The best mobile websites - Guardian
September 19, 2008
Saw a great article by the guardian.co.uk today. Here is an excerpt:
dotMobi, the mobile industry trade body, has published a list of the top ten mobile-ready websites, but only three of them scored more than three out of five on dotMobi’s scale of “readiness”.
The top ten were Google.com, WashingtonPost.com, Ask.com, Yahoo.com Flickr.com, Live.com, Facebook.com, Overstock.com, Weather.com and USA Today.com. Only Google, Facebook and Yahoo scored well for good practice, but most of the 100 sites tested scored an average 1.3 out of five.
Web pages designed for PCs typically have far more graphics and text than streamlined mobile sites, so end up costing the user more to access on a pay-per-data mobile service. The average homepage costs a hefty 75p to access and takes 40 seconds to download.
BBC.co.uk came in at 28 with a 28 second loading time and a (rather shocking) cost of $1.28, but the BBC.mobi site took 1 second and cost the user 2 cents. It was a similar story for the New York Times ranked at 22: nytimes.com took 87 seconds to load and cost $3.37, but nytimes.mobi took one second and cost 1 cent.
Test your own site for mobile readiness on the dotMobi site but be warned - they might try and flog you a .mobi domain name while you’re at it.
