Check Toy Safety By Mobile - SafeToy.mobi

December 14, 2009

Well this time of year everyone is looking for toys and you’d think
they’d look in the most convenient place - on their phone . So is it
happening? Are kids in playgrounds browsing the latest toys by phone?

And are parents actively looking for safe toys?

Last month saw the launch of  toysafety.mobi a heavily promoted site encouraging people to report dangerous US toys and read consumer group warnings about toys. Unfortunately it doesn’t list recalls, but we found a toy recall list, easy search feature, advice and information on safetoy.mobi

But can you actually buy or browse toys on .mobi sites?

Sure, there are hundreds of sites out there. A few we found lightsaber.mobi sells lightsabers, toyark.mobi sells toys. It seems toysrus, mattell, hasbro etc need to pull their finger out as their .mobi sites go nowhere.

Some fun sites that are up from marvel and dc comics are:

http://batman.mobi
http://superman.mobi
http://wonderwoman.mobi
http://spiderman.mobi

Again, you will get a tailored experience whether visiting from pc or mobile.

View the screenshot below of  safetoy.mobi . Great to view from a pc or mobile phone. Check it out on both devices. This is a must visit site in our opinion for every parent of small children. It’s a real God send this site is around, particularly for the festive period and beyond.

safetoy

Incidentally we notice safetoys.mobi is not developed. I don’t think we can have enough of these sites informing parents. I think the top toy brands have a duty of care to develop and promote these kind of sites, along with relevant governments.

MOKO.mobi raises $1,000,000

MOKO - Chat & Share Anywhere

Announcement comes after mobile device communications platform provider seals first major EU deal.

moko.mobi

ASX-listed mobile device communications platform provider, MOKO.mobi (ASX: MKB) has announced it has raised over $1 million in capital at a price of $0.10 per share and is in the process of investigating a “significant corporate transaction”.

In a statement to the ASX, the company said the capital raising was done under a private placement and will be made under the approval given by shareholders at its annual general meeting in September.

It also said the formalities of the transaction would be completed over the coming days with any deal subject to shareholder approval. A spokesperson for the company would not provide further information.

“We are encouraged by this show of strong support from private and institutional shareholders, providing additional working capital to assist MOKO.mobi in its current carrier rollout program” MOKO.mobi managing director Ian Rodwell, said. “The company continues to make progress in acquiring new mobile telephone carriers supplying our product to their user base, and these additional funds will enable the company to better support those new contracts.”

In August the company announced it was in the process of raising $1.5 million in equity with funds coming through a private placement with “Triscreen Media Group (TMG) agreeing to invest a further $500,000 as part of the placement”.

At the time of the announcement it said it was confident of “achieving at least $1.5 million under this placement”.

Early in December, the company also announced it had signed its first major continental European deal with Telefonica Spain.

About Malaysia Airlines, from Wikipedia:

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) (Malay: Sistem Penerbangan Malaysia; Chinese: ????????; MYX: 3786) is the government-owned flag carrier airline of Malaysia. Malaysia Airlines operates flights from its home base, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and its secondary hub in Kota Kinabalu. It has its headquarters on the grounds of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah International Airport in Subang, Selangor.
Despite a financial restructuring exercise in 2006, Malaysia Airlines maintains a strong presence in Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Middle East and on the Kangaroo Route between Europe and Australasia. Malaysia Airlines also operated transatlantic flights from Kuala Lumpur to Newark, via Stockholm until October 2009. It operates transpacific flights from Kuala Lumpur to Los Angeles, via Taipei. In 1997, the airline flew the world’s longest non-commercial, non-stop flight from Boeing Field in Seattle to Kuala Lumpur, flying eastward passing the European and African continents and breaking the Great Circle Distance Without Landing record for an airliner on a Boeing 777-200ER longer than the record held by the Boeing 777-200LR.
Malaysia Airlines non-aeronautical revenue sources include maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), and aircraft handling. Malaysia Airlines has two airline subsidiaries: Firefly and MASwings. Firefly operates scheduled flights from its home base Penang International Airport which focus on tertiary cities, while MASwings focuses on inter-Borneo flights. Malaysia Airlines has a freighter fleet operated by MASKargo, which manages freighter flights and aircraft cargo-hold capacity for all Malaysia Airlines’ passenger flights. MASCharter is another subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, operating charter flights using Malaysia Airlines’ aircraft. After recovering from past losses, Malaysia Airlines is keen on merger and acquisition (M&A) activities: particularly airlines in the Asia Pacific region. Malaysia Airlines was ranked second with score 88 in Aviation Week’s Top Performing Companies which accurately measures financial viability of an airline.
Since its inception in 1963, after Malayan Airways was separated into two parts, Malaysia Airlines has built up a strong brand name in the aviation industry for service and safety , coupled with numerous awards from international bodies such as Skytrax. Malaysia Airlines is accredited by International Air Transport Association with IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) for its operational safety practices.
It is one of only six airlines to be given a 5-star status airline by Skytrax (the other 5 are Asiana Airlines from South Korea, Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong, Qatar Airways from Qatar, Singapore Airlines from Singapore and Kingfisher Airlines from India). Malaysia Airlines is also listed among Skytrax’s Quality Approved Airlines, alongside fellow 5-star carriers Asiana Airlines, Kingfisher Airlines and Qatar Airways .

UK Met Office launch mobile site: MetOfficeMobile.mobi

December 7, 2009

The UK Met Office is perhaps the most respected meteorological & weather reporting site on the planet. Their official pc based site is & has an alexa rank of 6,801

They were savvy enough to register all major extensions, and all the .com, .info, .org, .org.uk , .co.uk etc. variants point to their www.metoffice.gov.uk site

With 2 exceptions. They own metoffice.mobi & metofficemobile.mobi . The first domain is a redirect to their stand alone mobile site at metofficemobile.mobi

A screenshot of the mobile site’s homepage can be seen below:

_____________________________________________________

met office mobile

The Met Office, ‘about themselves’…………..

“We are one of the world’s leading providers of environmental and weather-related services. Our solutions and services meet the needs of many communities of interest… from the general public, government and schools, through broadcasters and online media, to civil aviation and almost every other industry sector - in the UK and around the world.

Customers are the top priority for the Met Office, whether the general public, or a company.

Our staff, customers and visitors are encouraged to use environmentally sustainable means of travel to visit Met Office locations.

We are committed to meeting our objectives in a sustainable way and acting in a positive manner in our dealings with our staff, customers, suppliers and the wider community.”

Better still, when searching for ‘met office mobile’ on Google, it displays the metofficemobile.mobi site with the top results, along with pc site pages of promotion for the .mobi site. Personally I think they should have run with the shorter metoffice.mobi url, but I guess it’s just to help the public, in their eyes.

google results

Again, they tell people on their mobile site as you would expect : metofficemobile.mobi/url

I would like to see a simple text link ‘mobile’ or an icon on their pc site on the homepage to educate their visitors to their pc site, so they are more aware of the mobile version when out and about, however they do have a page dedicated to promoting the mobile site www.metoffice.gov.uk/media/mobilevideo.html

See below………………..

We found the site clean, slick, easy to use and navigate. I hope they build the site out even further, and look forward to even more promotion also. Radio adverts would be great. Even banner ads on mobile sites also, like weather.mobi used in their campaigns.
